About the Event

Even the most preliminary self-observation is likely to reveal the chaotic state of one’s inner life—wandering thoughts, incessant inner dialogue, repressed or rampant feelings, ignored or indulged physical impulses.

Behind these observations, we may also be able to hear a subtle inner call—a wish for a harmonious functioning of our different parts and a new inner order that is not rigid but organic, and which obeys a higher calling. Where is the light, what is the way toward it?

The Gurdjieff teaching shows us that we do not have the power to change ourselves directly without a kind of violence toward oneself that typically is soon exhausted. But by accepting to observe and note our mechanicality, we can begin to see ourselves more clearly. It is this seeing that can bring about the change we wish for. The best and really the only place to begin is in our lives as they are now, with their problems and imbalances.

In this session, we will discuss how efforts to harmonize our lives, both inner and outer, help prepare the ground for a deeper state of being.

(Please note: This session is the last in this series. We will resume activity in the fall.)
